BRIGHTON MARATHON RUNNERS - 18th April 2010
In an amazing show of thanks to the Sussex Cancer Centre, Andy is running the inaugural Brighton Marathon in April 2010 to raise money for the Sussex Cancer Fund. Andy was treated here and now back to fighting fitness, he is currently training to take on 26 miles along with his wife Jo who is also running and is pictured with Andy here. He has run in the past but as a sprinter, so is used to measuring his training in meters not miles! This represents an enormous challenge and we are very grateful that Andy for this on to raise much needed funds for the charity. He deserves all the support he can get, so if you would like to support Andy, you can do so by clicking here:

Mark started running in 2000, after the 'university years' and the 'sat behind a desk' pahse of his life was taking its toll! Having run the London Marathon in 2000, he declared never to put himself through such a brutal event again. 14 marathons later he is running the inaugural Brighton Marathon for the Sussex Cancer Fund. Mark cannot believe that Brighton has finally got the go ahead for a marathon, and believes that the feel good factor it has created in Brighton and Hove is invaluable.
"I am so excited about this event, having run marathons is such places as New York, Dublin and Cork I really believe that Brighton will create a different unique atmosphere which will make the day amazing. Let's face it, given the choice of running around the Docklands in London, or nearly 20 miles along the Sussex Coast there is no comparison! Please support me in raising funds for this wonderful charity, every panny will go towards making a real difference in the fight against cancer".
Thank you,
Mark

I am running to raise funds because my wife, Linda, was diagnosed with throat cancer last August. She had 5.5 weeks of radiotherapy at the Sussex Cancer Centre and has since had a number of follow up appointments, biopsies, scans, etc. At the moment she has another appointment on 24 March because a recent biopsy was "inconclusive". We have our fingers crossed for a good result. All of the staff at the Centre have been excellent, in particular all of the radiographers, Jo Kerr, Pat Shields and Simon at the car park. We are indebted to them all, and hopefully doing this run will be a small way of saying thank you.

NEW YORK HALF MARATHON - 3rd April 2010

Hi All. My cousin and I are running to raise awareness of testicular cancer but also to raise some cash for The Sussex Cancer Fund …and we need your help!
Testicular Cancer is a relatively rare form of cancer. Although it accounts for only 1% of cancers in men, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men between the ages of 20 and 34. About 75% of cases of testicular cancer occur in men between 20 and 49. If detected early, testicular cancer can be one of the most treatable forms of cancer but this statistic relies heavily on awareness and the treatment the patient receives.
The Sussex Cancer Fund oversees the welfare of patients at the Sussex Cancer Unit in Brighton, England, generally making life easier and more comfortable for people suffering from all types of cancer. As my bother experienced first-hand in 2007, their help and assistance is invaluable to the patients on the ward but they are in constant need of more money!
Please, please, please take a few minutes to make a donation. No matter how small, your money will be going to a truly great cause and will make a difference to those who are suffering.
