Tricia Elton ‘Braved the Shave’ for SCF

A message from TriciaHead Shave of the last few hairs left after Chemotherapy! Please donate to the wonderful organisation that saved me in 2000 from Breast Cancer and are now doing the same for my Lung Cancer. “

We would like to say a massive thank you to Tricia Elton who recently ‘braved the shave’ for the Sussex Cancer Fund. Tricia has been receiving treatment at Worthing and at the Sussex Cancer Centre. Tricia felt compelled to raise money for the Sussex Cancer Fund after two cancer diagnoses 20 years apart.

Tricia’s Story

Having had breast cancer nearly 20 years ago (due to being on HRT for 13 years instead of the recommended 10 years, which has now been reduced to 5 years) and caused an overload of oestrogen, I knew roughly what I had to go through when now diagnosed with lung cancer.

The breast cancer, I luckily found in time, when trying on holiday bikinis and found 1/2” of what looked like top sewing. The lung cancer showed up on an X-ray my daughter insisted I went for when she heard me wheezing a little and I was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. Worthing Hospital’s fast track was fantastic and I was soon on a heavy dose of chemo which led to me losing most of my hair. Treatment was then moved to The Sussex Clinic in Brighton. 6 1/2 weeks of daily Radiotherapy with Chemotherapy every Monday. The weather was wonderful which made my coastal daily trips from Ferring very enjoyable and it was lovely having time to catch up with my grandson and 1/2 dozen friends who chauffeured me to and fro. I’ve now finished my treatment, WHOOPEE, and will be regaining my strength during the coming month while awaiting the result of the treatment.

Fingers crossed. “
